Inspiration Vacation to Borrego Springs

The last two weeks have been busy … and now were in February!  I have a month till I drop off the artwork for the exhibit. I foresee a lot of studio hours.

Recently, I spent a few days on vacation in Borrego Springs (a small desert community about 60 miles past Temecula and 30 miles before the the Salton Sea). We picked this location because it was advertised as a Dark Sky community for star gazing, and the fact that there are some awesome larger-than-life metal sculptures by Ricardo Breceda - I never imagined how inspirational this trip would be!

Here are some fun pictures to see for yourself:

Palm Canyon Hotel and RV Resort - fun place at a reasonable price.
Loved the wild west theme...
And the delicious food...
and the lovely desert view...

but these were the highlight of the trip…the metal sculptures in the Galleta Meadows Estate
They are just so incredible!
and full of textures!

The cherry on top was when we stopped in Temecula, on our way home, to see Ricardo's studio at the Vail Lake Resort (off HWY 79 south, 9 miles east of the 15 Fwy) a sight impossible to miss. It was free and open to the public, and we even got to meet Ricardo! He was so nice and grateful that we enjoyed seeing his art (and bought a small piece - we couldn't resist!)

What a sight!

This trip was just incredible! I even bought the biography book Ricardo Breceda: Accidental Artist  and read it all in one evening. Its a very fascinating read.
